Kickstarting adversary emulation engagements

Hack Space Con 2024 · Workshop

Kennedy Space Center ยท 10-13 April 2024

Workshop at Hack Space Con 2024, Kennedy Space center Orlando on kickstarting adversary emulation engagements, starting with the fundamentals: how cyber threat intelligence shapes defense strategy, why blue teams matter, and how purple teaming has become a bigger part of modern security work.

From there, the session moved deeper into the practical side of emulation, covering how to turn threat intelligence into real emulation exercises by selecting and mimicking genuine tactics, techniques, and procedures. Participants got hands-on with tools like Atomic Red Team and MITRE Caldera to test endpoint security controls, and looked at emulating specific threat actors such as APT29 and Sandworm.

The training wrapped up by exploring ransomware emulation in safe environments, weighing its impact, and folding purple teaming practices into an organization's broader security framework, with a strong focus on reporting and presenting findings clearly.

Abhijith also hosted Adversary Village at Hack Space Con 2024. More about the event is on the Hack Space Con website.
